Israel and the International Arena: Challenges and Opportunities
Join Classrooms Without Borders for a community lecture featuring Avi Ben-Hur, CWB Scholar in Residence.
At the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century, Israel is healthier, wealthier and more secure than ever before in its short modern history. That said, the challenges facing the country in the international arena are staggering; from the relative disengagement of the US from the region to the rise of Iran as a regional hegemon, serial trouble-maker and aspiring nuclear power. The collapse of Israel’s immediate neighborhood into political chaos, the reintroduction of Russia as a major regional player, and the inroads that China is making economically all pose challenges and opportunities for Israel. This presentation aims to sort out the immediate and mid-term issues that Israel will be grappling with in the coming years in the international arena. Avi will also briefly discuss Israel’s current political logjam.
