From the author of Jerusalem Maiden comes a remarkable story, inspired by little-known true events, about the thousands of young Jewish women who were trafficked into prostitution at the turn of the 20th century, and whose subjugation helped build Buenos Aires. A powerful story of finding courage in the face of danger, and hope in the face of despair, The Third Daughter brings to life a dark period of Jewish history and gives a voice to victims whose truth deserves to finally be told.
For our third annual Derekh Speaker Series, we have invited authors from across the country to discuss their books at Beth Shalom. This year’s authors are united in how they uncover hidden stories – stories like those of Naamah on the Ark, race car driving against Nazi Germany, academic fraud in the nation’s top universities, unsung genius women, and an escape from Tzarist Russia gone wrong.
The talks are free and open to the public! Books with signed bookplates are made available from White Whale Bookstore.
This series of talks by five authors from across the country is made available through the Jewish Book Council and funded by Seth Glick and Carolyn Slayton.
