Presented by FilmPittsburgh, OneTable, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh’s Young Adult Division
Each Shabbat offers an opportunity to pause, reflect, and rejuvenate, and to translate our hopes of a better world into focused action in our communities.
Please join us for a very special pre-Shabbat dinner discussion to unpack Ava Duvernay’s film 13th with State Representative Summer Lee, moderated by Film Pittsburgh Board Member + WQED Senior Producer, Minette Seate, hosted in partnership by Film Pittsburgh, OneTable, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh’s Young Adult Division. We’ll talk about the systemic racism depicted in 13th like mass incarceration and the school to prison pipeline, we’ll hear from Summer Lee about her work as a legislator in our region, the Black Lives Matter movement, and more.
We are pleased to share that 13th is available to stream via Netflix, and for free on YouTube and Ava Duvernay’s website. Our hope is that you’ll watch the film before our discussion and will come ready to learn. We’ll be taking some of YOUR questions for Summer to answer during our Q+A, so please make sure to submit them via the form on our platform when you RSVP. We understand this conversation may be challenging for some — whether you’re new to the conversation or an established community activist, we’d love for you to join us.
To help elevate your own Shabbat dinners this evening, the first 20 people to RSVP will be eligible to receive a Nourishment gift.
Registration opening soon.
