How to Disagree Constructively: The Jewish Way

Virtual Event

As the war in Israel continues, we recognize the importance of having a safe space to gather and would like to invite our community to our upcoming events.

Mondays at 7 PM, Nov. 7 - Dec. 12.

We are a deeply divided society in a polarized world. Perhaps never in our lifetimes have disagreements on politics and ethics been so profound. One fact people across political divides today may still agree upon is that civil discourse is turning less and less civil. Indeed, the sheer lack of desire to try to understand those with opposing opinions and to disagree constructively is posing an existential threat to democracies around the world.

And that is why the Pardes Institute in Jerusalem created Mahloket Matters: How to Disagree Constructively. This course, facilitated by Rabbi Schiff, uses Jewish texts to increase people’s motivation and ability to understand and engage more constructively with opinions that differ from their own.

How to Disagree Cost: $75 for 6 sessions (all sessions online via Zoom)

The full inclusion of people of all abilities is a core value of the Pittsburgh Jewish Community. The cost of taking a course is never a barrier to participation. If price is an issue, please contact Cheryl Johnson at cjohnson@jfedpgh.org, so that we can make the cost of the course comfortable for you.
