Classrooms Without Borders, in partnership with the Lauri Ann West Community Center and Adat Shalom Synagogue, presents THE LEVYS OF MONTICELLO, a documentary film followed by a talk with Steven Pressman (Director & Producer) and Q&A.
When Thomas Jefferson died in 1826, he left behind a mountain of personal debt, which forced his heirs to sell his beloved Monticello and all of its possessions. ‘The Levys of Monticello’ tells the little-known story of the Levy family, who owned and carefully preserved Monticello for nearly a century – far longer than Jefferson or his descendants. This remarkable story also addresses the criticism and antisemitism they faced as they tirelessly worked to preserve the historic estate for the education of generations to come.
