Facilitated by Morgan Besares Nelson
Temple Ohav Shalom Center for Early Learning
6:30 – 7:00 p.m. Welcome and Site Visit
7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Professional Development Session
When posed with the question “What should we add to our classroom?” The children in the Three’s Class surprised their teachers with an unexpected answer. Join Morgan Besares Nelson, as she and the rest of the 3’s team explore how an emergent curriculum helped their classroom to solve a problem, to learn about one another, and to live out their school’s values of Shema (listening), Kehilla (community), and Kavanah (intention).
Morgan Besares Nelson graduated from Montreat College with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services and a minor in Spanish. As a social worker she gained experience with children and families in various settings. In 2011 she began her journey into early childhood education while working at the Carriage House Children’s Center. While there, she began a master’s program in education at the University of Pittsburgh. She became a licensed teacher and then worked as a second grade and kindergarten teacher for several years within the Propel Schools. Morgan graduated in 2018 with a Master’s degree in Education. She has continued her education at TOSCEL, learning to teach in a Reggio inspired classroom.
Jewish Life & Learning is pleased to offer this series of professional development sessions being hosted and facilitated by early childhood educators at our three Pittsburgh JECEI Pilot Schools: Squirrel Hill JCC, Temple Emanuel and Temple Ohav Shalom and at our Bonim Beyachad Pilot School: Community Day School.
As each session will address a different topic and will include a site visit to each of the four pilot schools, you may feel free to register to attend one, two, three or all four of the sessions. Please Note: There is a $15 Registration Fee per person, per session which will be billed directly to each participant’s school. Qualified participants will receive Act 48/PA Keys hours for attending.
