DESCRIPTION:In this final session\, Dr. Karen Shastri helps us synthesize all that we’ve learned about non-profit financial records in previous sessions to enable a sound financial analysis. Dr. Shastri serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Public Budgeting\, Accounting & Financial Management and has been on the Editorial Board for Research in Healthcare Financial Management\, and an ad hoc reviewer for accounting-related journals and conferences. \nDr. Shastri has been actively involved in research related to internal management accounting practices. One of her current studies focuses on firms that do not utilize budgeting as part of their management information system. A recent study examined firms’ budgeting processes to assess the value-added from these processes as well as identify best practices while another published paper focuses on firms that do not use budgets as a management tool.Additionally\, she has been involved in d a case write-up on real options and capital budgeting.

SUMMARY:The Three Thousand Year Connection between the Jewish People and the Land of Israel with Avi Ben-Hur
DESCRIPTION:The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh in partnership with Classrooms Without Borders (CWB)\, is pleased to offer an extremely timely\, pertinent\, and meaningful hybrid professional development session (in-person or virtual) for Jewish youth professionals with CWB scholar\, Avi Ben-Hur. \nThis session will be divided into two parts: \n\nA presentation consisting of a deep dive into the unequivocal\, historical\, archaeological\, literary\, and scientific evidence that the Jewish people have been deeply connected to the Land of Israel for millennia.\nA discussion about how to integrate this connection into activities (for pre-teens & teens) that relate to Jewish identity & heritage\, while avoiding the minefields of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.\n\nThis session will be held in-person at the Federation’s offices and a certified kosher dinner will be served. For those unable to attend in-person\, a ZOOM link will be provided. There is no fee to attend but registration is required by Monday\, February 3rd. \nA Brooklyn native\, Avi Ben-Hur moved to Israel in 1983. From 2003-2008 Avi was Director of the Archaeological Seminars School for Israeli Tour Guides. In 2008 Avi participated in re-writing the curriculum of the National Guiding courses for the Israeli Ministry of Tourism. As a “Scholar in Residence\, Avi has lectured\, taught\, and facilitated workshops in the US\, Warsaw\, Prague\, Berlin\, and Greece. From 1996-2000\, Avi taught in Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Studies. As a guide\, Avi has specialized working with organizations focusing on political issues (such as AIPAC & CIJA)\, inter-faith programs and Holocaust studies. At Present\, Avi is an examiner for the Israeli Ministry of Tourism Licensing Boards and is the ongoing scholar in residence of Classrooms Without Borders.
