SUMMARY:As a Jew YAD Watch Party
DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled.\nYAD and CRC invite Young Adults (22-45) to enjoy dinner while we join  Gefsky Community Scholar Rabbi Danny Schiff via Zoom for a powerful conversation with Sarah Hurwitz\, former speechwriter for Barack and Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton\, as she shares insights from her bold new book\, As a Jew: Reclaiming Our Story from Those Who Blame\, Shame and Try to Erase Us (coming September 2025). In this deeply personal work\, Hurwitz explores her journey back to Judaism—confronting antisemitism\, rediscovering Jewish wisdom and embracing her heritage with pride. \nAttendees will receive a copy of As a Jew: Reclaiming Our Story from Those Who Blame\, Shame\, and Try to Erase Us. \nSarah Hurwitz is the author of Here All Along: Finding Meaning\, Spirituality\, and a Deeper Connection to Life – in Judaism (After Finally Choosing to Look There)—which was a finalist for two National Jewish Book Awards and for the Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature—and of As a Jew: Reclaiming Our Story From Those Who Shame\, Blame\, and Try To Erase Us\, which won the Natan Notable Book Award. She was a White House speechwriter from 2009 to 2017\, starting out as a senior speechwriter for President Barack Obama and then serving as head speechwriter for First Lady Michelle Obama. Prior to working in the White House\, Hurwitz was the chief speechwriter for Hillary Clinton on her 2008 presidential campaign. Hurwitz is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School and has completed training to be a chaplain\, which she does on a volunteer basis at a hospital near her home.

SUMMARY:Antisemitism\, an American Tradition: Pamela Nadell in conversation with Bret Stephens
DESCRIPTION:Pamela Nadell’s new book Antisemitism\, an American Tradition investigates the dark history of how this hate threaded across the American past from colonial times to today. In the wake of the October 27\, 2018\, synagogue shooting\, many Americans were shocked to see such violent antisemitism in the United States. From attempts to expel Jews from New Amsterdam in 1654 to “Jews will not replace us” chants in Charlottesville in 2017\, Nadell’s book reveals that this hatred is deeply rooted in our nation’s past. \nJoin Pamela Nadell in conversation with NYT columnist Bret Stephens about her new book and the long history of antisemitism in American life. Together\, they will explore how understanding the past can help us stand up and fight back against hate. \nSunday\, October 19\, 2025\nVIP Pre-Reception – 4:00 PM\nProgram – 5:00 PM\nGeneral Reception and Book Signing – 6:00 PM \nVIP tickets include access to the Pre-Reception conversation with Pamela Nadell and Bret Stephens\, as well as a signed copy of the book\, Antisemitism\, an American Tradition.

SUMMARY:October 7 Commemoration
DESCRIPTION:Registration for this event is SOLD OUT.\nWalk-ins cannot be accommodated.\nOn October 7\, 2023\, our global Jewish family was shaken by unimaginable violence. As we mark the second year since the Hamas attacks in Israel\, we gather in solemn remembrance of the 1\,200 lives lost\, the 251 hostages taken and the countless families forever changed. \nThis evening will center on reflection\, resilience and the power of storytelling. We are honored to welcome Andrei Kozlov\, a survivor of October 7\, who was abducted from the Nova music festival and held captive in Gaza for eight months. Through his art and testimony\, Andrei offers a rare and deeply personal lens into his journey of survival and hope. \nThis event is open to the entire Pittsburgh Jewish community and our allies. Whether you come to mourn\, to learn or to stand in solidarity\, your presence matters. Let us gather. Let us remember. Let us carry the stories forward. \nRegistration closes Friday\, October 10\, 2025. Security will be onsite. Below is important information to remember prior to the event:\n \n\nNo signs of any kind are permitted.\nNo face masks.\nBags must be 12″x12″ or smaller.\nBags are subject to search.\nRegistrants agree to this code of conduct.\n\nSupporting Partners\nAs of October 10\, 2025 \n                                            \n
