Urban Affairs Foundation Grant

The Urban Affairs Foundation (UAF) of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh is pleased to announce a new grant opportunity aimed at supporting grassroots organizations and community-based projects that positively impact at-risk youth, families, and communities in Pittsburgh. Through this funding initiative, the Foundation seeks to foster meaningful connections between the Jewish community and other urban communities, promote interfaith dialogue, and provide practical solutions to urban challenges. We are committed to funding projects that focus on community-building, social impact, and addressing critical urban issues.

The goal of the Urban Affairs Foundation Grants is to support programs and initiatives that align with the following objectives:

  • To build positive ties between the Jewish community and other significant urban segments, fostering inter-community collaboration.
  • To fund community-building efforts that address systemic issues affecting urban environments, particularly those impacting at-risk youth, families, and neighborhoods.
  • To support grassroots organizations that are at a crucial point for growth and development.
  • To provide technical assistance and expert knowledge to new initiatives and groups within the urban community, helping them to develop sustainable, impactful programs.

Priority Areas for Funding:

We invite proposals for the following types of projects:

  1. Inter-Communal Activities
    • Minority and ethnic-sponsored programs that address urban issues such as poverty, drug-related violence, and other community challenges.
    • Projects that promote the general welfare of the community through collaboration between diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic groups.
  2. Interfaith Activities Directed Toward Urban Problems
    • Programs that encourage interfaith dialogue and cooperative efforts to address urban challenges. This may include activities similar to those run by organizations such as East End Cooperative Ministry and South Hills Interfaith Ministry.
  3. Grassroots Community Development
    • Projects aimed at strengthening urban communities, especially those focusing on vulnerable populations such as at-risk youth and families, and communities affected by economic or social challenges.
  4. Technical Assistance and Capacity Building
    • Support for newly formed groups or organizations within the urban community that need technical assistance, knowledge-sharing, and expertise to build their capacity and achieve long-term sustainability.
