POSITION SUMMARY

Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of the Community Relations Council (CRC) plays a crucial role in fostering relationships between the Jewish community and various ethnic, racial, and religious groups in Pittsburgh. Working under the direction of the CRC Director, this position supports and manages innovative programs that promote inter-community collaboration, advocacy, and education to uphold and advance the interests of the Jewish community and Israel. This role is pivotal in combating antisemitism, enhancing community communications, and developing public affairs initiatives. The CRC is an integral part of the Federation’s long-term strategy for success.

This role offers a hybrid work schedule and requires availability for occasional evenings and weekends to attend community events. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead bridge-building initiatives with faith leaders and non-Jewish community groups.
  • Implement and coordinate programs that strengthen ties across different communities.
  • Develop and manage community advocacy initiatives and rapid response teams.
  • Advocate positions on legislation affecting the Jewish community.
  • Serve as a community educator and responder to incidents of antisemitism in greater Pittsburgh, with a particular focus on campus and K-12.
  • Manage the Urban Affairs Foundation activities, including the mini grants partnership with Vibrant Pittsburgh.
  • Develop and oversee the Pittsburgh-Israel Campus Fellows program in partnership with Hillel JUC.
  • Oversee event planning, educational content creation, and community outreach efforts.
  • Create social media outreach campaigns to communicate CRC related issues and actions.
  • Serve as a CRC media contact and spokesperson on issues related to Israel and antisemitism.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of the local, national, and international Jewish community, Israel, antisemitism, and current affairs.
  • Proven experience in community relations, organizing, and public advocacy.
  • Strong ability to work with diverse populations
  • Able to build and maintain effective relationships with media outlets.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with a knack for building consensus.
  • Results-driven with strong planning and organizational abilities.

Education, Training, or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of successful experience in programming, public affairs, government relations, community organizing, and/or advocacy.

Physical Requirements:

  • Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile, and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files, as well as sitting at a computer desk.
  • Travel by automobile will be required regularly.

Compensation:

This position has a competitive hiring range of $56,000 to $80,000 a year, commensurate with experience, education and skills.
