The Manager of Research, Impact, and Data Analytics fills a key role in the success of data analytics initiatives across the organization. This role is responsible for developing, producing and delivering data-driven insights and analysis on programs, community geographic segments, key constituencies, market and program research initiatives, and communication/marketing strategies. The Manager of Research, Impact, and Data Analytics will be a key member of the Planning department’s innovation and insights team and will be expected to collaborate with cross-functional department stakeholders to improve processes and organizational performance.

Reporting to the Director of Planning, the Manager of Research, Impact, and Data Analytics will be responsible for building and strengthening data collection – both internally, and externally. The Federation is implementing a robust strategic plan that identifies the important role data and analytics plays in the way we conduct business. This role will play a critical part in setting the vision for the future of the Jewish community; changing the way the Federation allocates dollars, setting communal priorities, and supporting internal teams to collect and analyze data from programs and events.

The Manager of Research, Impact, and Data Analytics will develop, run, and present both scheduled and ad hoc reports/dashboards to provide key insights and analysis to support key organizational deliverables. This position will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and building dashboards to provide clear insights to the team(s), and developing and monitoring KPIs to provide regular feedback on program performance. This position will be responsible for initiating and collecting research to set community priorities, analyze data collected from grant reports and work with a volunteer committee to set priorities that will be recommended to the board of directors. This is a full-time, exempt position.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh is the central fundraising and community planning organization for the Pittsburgh Jewish community. We provide funding to local and overseas partner agencies, as well as independent programs that provide health and human welfare services.


The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the following areas:

  • Data Management and analysis
  • Project Management
  • Consultation
  • Data Reporting and Visualization
  • Communication

Specific activities may include:

  • Build infrastructure to collect and analyze data across all departments and programs
  • Develop and implement scheduled reports and dashboards
  • Identify, organize, and transform raw data for use across the organization
  • Consult with community organizations and agencies to identify key metrics and present findings to stakeholders
  • Consult with internal staff to create success metrics for programs, events, etc.
  • Manage key objectives in organizational strategic plan, and work with other teams to complete implementation of other objectives.
  • Manage research committee made up of community volunteers that will set community priorities
  • Preparing management-level presentations and clearly communicating key findings and insight
  • Developing and maintaining process documentation
  • Leading market and program research initiatives
  • Responsible for data analysis strategy for process improvement and program enhancements
  • Prepare annual report on allocations (Bluebook) for board of directors
  • Periodically staff Federation events and fundraisers; some evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Additional strategic data projects
  • Other duties as needed

Preferred qualifications include:

  • 5 - 8 years' experience as a business analyst or equivalent
  • Ability to be a liaison between stakeholders in all departments, and interface effectively with volunteers and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines, and exhibit sound judgment. High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, command of the English language with attention to proper grammar and spelling.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite (desktop and online), specifically Excel. Experience in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms (Blackbaud a plus) and database work. Comfortable with and open to new technology.
  • Passion for the mission of the Jewish Federation and the Jewish community a plus.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Flexible perspective and ability to work with processes and systems that are evolving and subject to change.


  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience designing and implementing measurement activities and plans, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility in community-based projects
  • A BA or MA in evaluation, education, business analytics, public administration, social sciences or the approved equivalent of evaluation experience and education.
  • Must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19


This position has a competitive salary of $55,000 to $70,000 a year to commensurate with experience. The Federation offers a competitive benefits package when compared to other non-profits in the region.
