The Young Adult Programs and Planning Associate is a newly established position within the Young Adult Division (YAD) of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, reporting to the Director of Young Adult Engagement and Community Collaboration. This position will ensure the key functions of the Young Adult Division’s work to create a thriving and welcoming environment for young people (ages 22-45) in Pittsburgh through the creation and execution of meaningful events and initiatives, and the establishment of a new model for supporting the work of partner organizations through effective micro-grantmaking.

This new position will be filled at an exciting time for the Federation and its community engagement programs as a new strategic plan leads to a reevaluation of our community engagement methodology. This full-time, exempt position will work closely with the Young Adult Division team as well as the marketing, planning, and finance departments, and volunteer leadership.


Engagement Programming

  • Work with the Young Adult Division staff as well as lay leadership from the Outreach and Engagement and Family Engagement committees to develop, plan, and execute programs for engaging young adults in community
  • Cultivate a communal culture that ensures a sense of inclusion and belonging for everyone participating in Federation and Federation-affiliated programs
  • Work closely with the Director of Young Adult Engagement, the Manager of Young Adult Philanthropy, and the Young Adult Division Development Coordinator to develop a cohesive annual calendar of programs and events, recruit for events and initiatives, and execute existing programs
  • Play a central role in the planning of large-scale young adult community events in coordination with the Events Manager, YAD staff, and lay leadership
  • Attend communal events and represent the Federation as an ambassador for young adult engagement, connecting people to events and resources

Planning for Collaboration

  • In partnership with the Director of Young Adult Engagement, develop and execute a streamlined micro-granting process for funding communal events of partner organizations
  • Work closely with the Planning and Finance Departments to ensure that grant-making activities are executed effectively, efficiently, and in a timely manner
  • Develop and implement a framework for evaluating the efficacy of recipient programs and ensure effective and timely reporting by partner organizations
  • Work closely with partner organizations to develop meaningful relationships that lead to lasting impact on community
  • Work closely with lay leadership to ensure their participation and input in the execution of Planning and allocation processes


  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with all levels of staff, volunteers, and community partners
  • Must be able to work well independently and as a team player.
  • Superior emotional intelligence and an aptitude for building strong relationships.
  • Outstanding analytical and communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills with keen focus on timely and accurate results
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Strong knowledge of online web conferencing platforms Teams, Zoom, WebEx.


  • Bachelor’s degree: relevant commensurate experience will be considered.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • A history of success in community engagement as a professional or volunteer. Grant-making experience a plus.
  • This role requires frequent travel by automobile with the availability for additional hours including nights and weekends at organization sponsored events.


  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May be required to lift 10-15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Local travel maybe required for Federation events.
  • A valid PA Driver’s license must be maintained during employment.


This position has a competitive salary of $45,000 to $55,000 commensurate with experience. The Federation offers a competitive benefits package when compared to other non-profits in the region, which includes medical, dental, and vision benefits, partial retirement match, parental leave, and a generous sick time and paid-time off package including Jewish holidays in addition to all federal holidays.
