DESCRIPTION:Registration for this event is SOLD OUT.\nWalk-ins cannot be accommodated.\nOn October 7\, 2023\, our global Jewish family was shaken by unimaginable violence. As we mark the second year since the Hamas attacks in Israel\, we gather in solemn remembrance of the 1\,200 lives lost\, the 251 hostages taken and the countless families forever changed. \nThis evening will center on reflection\, resilience and the power of storytelling. We are honored to welcome Andrei Kozlov\, a survivor of October 7\, who was abducted from the Nova music festival and held captive in Gaza for eight months. Through his art and testimony\, Andrei offers a rare and deeply personal lens into his journey of survival and hope. \nThis event is open to the entire Pittsburgh Jewish community and our allies. Whether you come to mourn\, to learn or to stand in solidarity\, your presence matters. Let us gather. Let us remember. Let us carry the stories forward. \nRegistration closes Friday\, October 10\, 2025. Security will be onsite. The Federation’s Kim Salzman\, Director\, Israel & Overseas Planning & Impact and Gefsky Community Scholar Rabbi Danny Schiff will be joined by Tsach Saar\, Deputy Consul General for Israel in New York. Together\, they will provide context\, analysis and implications for Israel and our local community. \nThis timely update will help you better understand the evolving regional dynamics and their relevance to our Jewish communal priorities. \nTsach Saar\, Deputy Consul General\, plays a pivotal role in managing the diplomatic activities of Israel’s Consulate in New York. His responsibilities include fostering relationships with elected officials and various community leaders in the consulate’s areas of operation. He leads the consulate’s engagement with Jewish communities and major organizations. \nRabbi Dr. Danny Schiff is the H. Arnold and Adrien B. Gefsky Community Scholar. He is a noted teacher and researcher in Jewish ethics. \n Kim Salzman is the Director of Israel & Overseas Planning & Impact for the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and author of Straddling Black and White\, a novel exploring issues of immigration to Israel.

DESCRIPTION:Sharaka is a nonprofit organization born from the Abraham Accords that strives to build the foundations of a peaceful Middle East through person-to-person diplomacy and cultural exchange. With a history of bringing Israelis to Bahrain\, Morocco and the UAE\, and taking delegations from those countries both to Israel and to Auschwitz\, Sharaka has shined a powerful light on the ability for human-to-human exchange to dismantle harmful narratives and lay the groundwork for a shared future. \nSharaka is bringing its authentic storytelling and mission of peace-building through shared humanity to Pittsburgh. Sharaka believes that by valuing cultural differences and celebrating shared values we can collectively lay the groundwork for a long-term future of coexistence. With a delegation of Muslims\, Christians and Jews from Bahrain\, Israel and Morocco\, Sharaka will model the power of interfaith and international friendships in bringing about a hopeful future for people of all religions throughout the Middle East. We welcome your curiosity and your questions while we grapple with a heartbreaking war in the Middle East. While it may be easier to entrench in our respective religious\, cultural\, political and national camps – please join us in forging an alternative path built on the radical coexistence of the diverse people most directly impacted by the conflict. This is a community education event.
