Endowment Fund
What Is It?
Legacy Funds are permanent endowment funds in the Jewish Community Foundation that perpetuate your gift to the Jewish Federation’s Community Campaign. Grinspoon LIFE & LEGACYTM endowments are also permanent endowment funds for one of fourteen participating Jewish organizations in Pittsburgh. The Jewish Federation is one of these beneficiary agencies, and donors may find it easier to create an endowment that supports the Community Campaign contribution they are already making year after year.
Why Ask Donors to Create a Legacy?
For more than a century we have built a vibrant and inclusive Jewish community. We engage and provide care to the full spectrum of Jews in Pittsburgh and embrace every member of our community regardless of observance, geography, age, or ability. We support the basic needs of Jews today and work to engage the next generation so that Jewish life and tradition continue.
In Pittsburgh, Israel, and around the world, together we make sure that no child goes to bed hungry; youth embrace our Jewish values and traditions; families stay strong; seniors stay active; seniors receive care they need with honor and dignity; people continue to support and defend Israel; and our community remains safe and secure.
Like you, our Legacy donors care about helping today and are focused on the future. As we have been the beneficiaries of those who preceded us, we will ensure that those who follow us have ample resources to sustain Jewish Pittsburgh long into the future. Join us in asking everyone to ensure that Pittsburgh’s Jewish community remains vibrant and strong for generations to come.
What Should You Do?
Please ask your donors two simple questions:
- Have you thought about what you want for the future of Jewish Pittsburgh after you’re gone?
- Would you be willing to speak with someone about creating a legacy in your will, trust or estate plan?
If a donor says “yes,” let them know that an expert will be touch with them and ask how they prefer to be contacted. Then email or call Donor Services at DonorServices@jfedpgh.org or 412-992-5226 with their information.
How Does It Work?
To support the Federation’s Community Campaign, the donor will create a permanent endowment through a variety of vehicles either during their lifetime or in a will, trust or estate plan. An expert can explain details to the donor.
The Grinspoon LIFE & LEGACYTM program is a partnership between the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. If a donor creates a permanent endowment fund that benefits one of the participating institutions or sign a letter of intent to do so in your will, trust or estate plan, the Harold Grinspoon Foundation will multiply the impact of their giving by providing some matching dollars to the institution they support.
The Jewish Community Foundation invests the fund and pays the income to the organization that the donor wants to support as a commitment in their name in perpetuity, ensuring that their philanthropic tradition will continue.
