Security Update

From the Federation Security Team

Please Be Aware

University of Pittsburgh was one of 33 universities engaging in anti-Israel protests. The protest initially started on Tuesday, April 23rd on Pitt’s campus but the students were then moved to Schenley Plaza with the agreement that they will vacate today. We have been monitoring this closely and coordinating with the university and public safety officials.

Last Sunday morning, a resident in the Mexican War Streets area of Pittsburgh experienced their fourth incident of antisemitic vandalism at their home. City police as well as the FBI are investigating. After the second incident, the homeowner installed video cameras which captured the suspect(s) in action.

With the upcoming Pittsburgh Marathon on Sunday, May 5th, we wanted to provide information to help navigate the impacted areas.” No Parking” along the course begins on Saturday May 4th at 11:00 PM and goes until Sunday at 3:00 PM. More information can be found on the City Fact Sheet and 2024 DSGPM Community Fact Sheet.

The Jewish Federation has launched a Virtual Block Watch Program, a volunteer network that can be called upon to provide residential or business video surveillance footage to help prevent, deter, and possibly solve crimes. The program is entirely voluntary and is designed to keep our community safe through collaboration. More information can be found on our Virtual Block Watch page.

Year to date 2024, the Jewish Federation has logged 103 incidents in our Virtual Command Center. This compares to 36 year to date 2023. We remain in a heightened threat environment and are working closely with law enforcement to monitor potential threat activity.
