Did you know Judaism has four New Years? While Rosh Hashanah and Tu Bishvat are widely known, the Jewish calendar also includes Rosh Hashanah LaBehemot, the New Year for Animals, observed on the first day of Elul. This largely forgotten holiday once marked the tithing year for animals in ancient Israel. Today it offers an opportunity to reflect on compassion, responsibility, and our relationship with the creatures who share our world.

As we begin the month of Elul and prepare for the High Holidays, join us for a community seder reviving this ancient tradition with renewed purpose. The evening includes a guided Elul Seder of Compassion, Jewish texts and meaningful discussion, community conversation, a gourmet plant based dinner free from animal products, and insights on Jewish ethics, animal welfare, and compassionate living.

Whether you are deeply engaged with these issues or simply curious to learn more, this evening offers a welcoming space to explore timeless Jewish values and their relevance today. Hosted in partnership with Jewish Vegan Life, Humane Action Pennsylvania, and Beit Kulanu.
