On June 22, Montreal Police responded to an active shooter in the Cote-des-Neiges area of Montreal, an area of the city with a large Jewish population. A police officer was killed, along with a Jewish male and the shooter. The shooting was allegedly inspired by Incel (involuntary celibate) ideology and was not targeting the Jewish community per the shooter’s manifesto. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a closure of Interstate 376 (Parkway East) for approximately 25 days between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale exits as part of the Commercial Street Bridge replacement project. The closure is scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM on July 10. In addition, Commercial Street (which runs beneath the Parkway) will be closed starting June 29 and will remain closed for the duration of the project. Our Security Team is offering a new training course on Digital Safety. This 90-minute course helps individuals and communities build real world online safety skills, so anyone, at any tech level, can navigate the digital world. It will highlight common scams, universal red flags, best practices to protect you against scams and procedures for what to do if you have been scammed. This class can be done in person or online.
