Jewish women belong in public leadership, but what does the path into political leadership actually look like?
Join us for a candid and practical 75-minute conversation about the many ways people can participate in political and public leadership, from running for office to campaign work, government and political staffing, and other roles in public life.
What does it really take to run? How do you know if you are ready? What are campaigns like behind the scenes? How can public life affect your family, career, privacy, and confidence? Where do you find training, mentors, and support? And what if you are interested in political leadership but do not want to be the candidate?
Our panel brings together women with experience from very different parts of political and public life:
Dr. Dana Brown, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Center for Women & Politics at Chatham University
The Honorable Jill Beck, Judge of the Pennsylvania Superior Court
PA State Senator Judy Schwank, 11th Senatorial District
PA State Representative Abigail Salisbury, District 34
Lynette Lederman, longtime Pittsburgh political and campaign professional
The discussion will be moderated by Katie Reiter, National Director of Jews for a Secular Democracy, who previously worked on political campaigns and served as chief of staff to a state senator.
While our panelists bring particular expertise in Pennsylvania politics, the webinar is open and valuable to participants across the country, and the discussion will address questions and experiences relevant to anyone interested in better understanding pathways into political leadership.
This program is part of the Jewish Women and Religious Freedom in Pittsburgh Project, sponsored by the Jewish Women’s Foundation of Greater Pittsburgh.
