Embracing Hakarat HaTov at the Turn of the Year

Thank You for Building a Stronger Jewish Future!

The Hebrew phrase that most closely expresses “showing appreciation” is Hakarat HaTov.

As we reach the peak of summer—and with the close of our 2025 fiscal year and the start of 2026—it feels especially fitting to pause and offer Hakarat HaTov, which literally means “recognizing the good.” At its heart, it’s about showing gratitude.

To our donors

Thank you for making this past year one of the most successful in our community’s history. In a time of rising antisemitism and growing security threats, you stepped up. You ensured that Jewish life in Pittsburgh, in Israel, and around the world remains vibrant, resilient, and inspiring. Every success the Federation achieved in fiscal year 2025 is a direct result of your generosity and vision.

To our volunteers and lay leaders

You are the minds and muscles behind so much of what we do. You solicit support from others. You approach difficult communal issues with thoughtfulness, always wearing your “community hats” to prioritize the greater good. You read the reports, ask hard questions and work hand in hand with our professional team. You challenge us, support us and push us to be better every day. We are better professionals because of your leadership skills.

To our partner agencies, both local and overseas

You are on the front lines delivering education, engagement, counseling, elder care and services for people with disabilities. You are feeding refugees in Krakow, supporting Jews under fire in Ukraine and helping Israeli families living through trauma and uncertainty. Federation is part of a powerful global network and together we are turning the impossible into the possible.

And to our incredible Federation staff

None of this, and I mean none of it, would be possible without your tireless dedication. You bring your full energy, heart and intellect to this work every day. This isn’t just a job for you, it’s a calling. Your passion for building a flourishing Jewish community where everyone feels included, supported and inspired is a gift to all of us. I am profoundly grateful to work alongside all of you. Thank you.

With deep gratitude,

Shabbat Shalom. Let’s carry this spirit forward into the year ahead.
