Incident Reported Outside Rodef Shalom Synagogue

A Joint Statement of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University

The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University are aware of a minor property-related incident reported outside Rodef Shalom Congregation earlier this week.

We are grateful that there was no damage to the synagogue or the property and we don’t believe there is an ongoing threat. Still, we recognize that any incident near a house of worship raises understandable concerns. Please know that both the Federation and Carnegie Mellon take these concerns very seriously.

Given the synagogue’s close proximity to campus, Carnegie Mellon Police and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police (PBP) responded quickly to gain more information. Our organizations are working closely together—along with the PBP and other authorities—to investigate fully; however, at this time, there is no indication this incident was motivated by antisemitism. CMU Police is providing extra patrols in the area.

Our shared commitment is to ensure Pittsburgh remains a community where everyone feels safe, respected and welcomed.
