The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh strongly condemns yesterday’s hate-fueled actions by members of the Goyim Defense League, who distributed antisemitic and racist flyers and shouted slurs at Jewish residents in Squirrel Hill.

“This kind of hate has no place in our neighborhoods,” said Laura Cherner, Director of the Federation’s Community Relations Council. “Our community is strong, united and we will stand together to oppose these vile actions.”

The Federation plays a vital role in protecting the Jewish community in Greater Pittsburgh. It works closely with law enforcement to monitor threats and ensure the continued safety of local Jewish institutions. As part of its long-standing commitment to communal security, the Federation has invested in security infrastructure in Squirrel Hill to support law enforcement in identifying and apprehending those who commit hate crimes. We appreciate the support of Mayor Gainey and the city resources he is dedicating to investigating this incident.

“The Federation has developed strong working partnerships with law enforcement. We value their shared commitment to protect Pittsburgh residents from hate crimes,” said Shawn Brokos, Director of Community Security.

“We encourage residents to sign up for our Virtual Block Watch program, which enables those with exterior home security cameras to share valuable footage when a criminal incident occurs nearby.”

Community members who witness or experience antisemitic incidents are encouraged to call 911 and file a report at jewishpgh.org to ensure they are documented and addressed appropriately.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh remains committed to combating antisemitism in all its forms and standing up for the safety, dignity and inclusion of all people.
