On Tuesday, May 20, Pittsburgh voters have the opportunity to shape a more inclusive and responsibly governed city. The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh encourages our community to vote YES on two critical ballot questions, 1 and 3.
These proposed amendments to the Pittsburgh Home Rule Charter reflect the Jewish values of fairness, justice and community accountability. Here’s what’s at stake:
Ballot Question 1
Would prohibit discrimination in City business based on race, religion, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, age, gender identity or expression, disability, place of birth, national origin or affiliation with any nation or foreign state.
- We support this because city government should protect and lift up and protect everyone.
Ballot Question 3
Would ensure that changes to the City Charter stay within the lawful authority of the City of Pittsburgh, preventing misuse of the amendment process.
- We support this to protect transparency and uphold responsible governance.
By voting YES on measures 1 and 3, we can help build a Pittsburgh rooted in fairness, equity and accountability.
