Alon Ohel, an innocent civilian and a gifted pianist from Pittsburgh’s sister community of Misgav in Israel, was abducted by Hamas from the Nova festival in Israel on October 7. Alon’s whereabouts are currently unknown.
Shortly after he was kidnapped, Alon’s mother, Idit Ohel, installed a yellow piano in Tel Aviv’s hostage square with a sign “You Are Not Alone.” Since then, yellow pianos have been installed in other cities, including New York, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam. Recently, our community installed a piano with the message “You Are Not Alone” in the Palm Court of the JCC in Squirrel Hill.
We invite you to join us on Sunday, August 25 at 1:30 AP, for a musical event to raise awareness of Alon’s story and the stories of all those who remain in captivity in Gaza. Several local musicians will perform and we will hear a moving message from Alon’s mother, Idit. We will then invite members of the community to play the piano. Through music, let’s send Alon and the other hostages love, strength, and the reassuring message that they are not alone.
