Making Sure There’s Food for the Holidays.

That’s Federation.

The Jewish High Holidays are a time for gathering, sharing a meal and celebrating a new year. For families facing food insecurity, having enough food for the holiday table can be a challenge.

That’s why the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh supports the Squirrel Hill Food Pantry, a longtime Jewish Family & Community Services (JFCS) resource and Pittsburgh’s only Kosher food pantry.

The Pantry serves more than 1,000 people each month, offering fresh produce, proteins, pantry staples and personal care items. Its client-choice model allows people to select what they need while respecting cultural, dietary and personal preferences, including Kosher and gluten-free options.

Around the Jewish holidays, the Pantry also distributes foods specifically for Passover, Rosh Hashanah and Hanukkah.

The Federation is there when needs grow, too. When SNAP benefits expired during last year’s government shutdown, the Federation awarded a $10,000 emergency grant to JFCS. The funding helped JFCS purchase additional Kosher items, expand food distribution and extend pantry hours as demand surged.

Supporting families means making sure they have access to food throughout the year, including when they gather to celebrate the holidays.

That’s caring for our neighbors.
That’s strengthening our community.
That’s Federation.
