Providing the tools for individuals with disabilities to advocate for themselves and lead fulfilling lives is not a privilege, but a duty at Israel Elwyn.

Amid the ongoing conflict, where daily life has been marked by uncertainty and displacement, innovative solutions are making a profound difference in the lives of Israeli infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families. With your support, the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh ensures the critical resources for our partner organizations on the ground like Israel Elwyn (IE) that provide essential programming for Israeli families. Israel Elwyn serves 5,200 individuals with disabilities across Israel. Their Early Intervention Centers (EICs) provide rehabilitative services and comprehensive support for toddlers with disabilities in the crucial first years of their development.

When imminent safety threats led to home confinement or even evacuation, the need for accessible therapy became even more critical. The introduction of an online professional video library has been a game-changer for families with infants and toddlers with disabilities. This comprehensive digital library offers training videos on topics recommended by parents such as play, communicating, movement, eating, sleeping and readiness for weaning. These resources have provided tools for parents and therapists to support their children’s development effectively from the “safety” of their homes or evacuation locations.

Shiri Karatin, Head of Physiotherapy at Israel Elwyn’s Haifa & Northern Israel Branch, praised the impact of this digital library:

“The video database allows the Early Intervention Center professional team to provide parents with accurate, reliable and high-quality information during a time when creating new content is nearly impossible. This support was essential for maintaining structured routines and continuing important therapeutic processes at home.”

In addition to the online library, the Federation’s support also extended to new rehabilitative and outdoor equipment at the EIC in Karmiel in Northern Israel. Parents shared their enthusiasm for the improvements. As one parent said:

“Seeing my son play in the new facilities is a joy. The slide helps him overcome his fears, the swing calms him, and the quiet sitting area provides a refuge. These facilities provide more than just play equipment—they are vital therapeutic tools for my child’s development. The new facilities have been a treasure for us. My daughter, who used to avoid new activities, is now excited to explore the trampoline. In addition, the swing has become her favorite spot to relax, and the quiet play area helps her bond with other children. Every day I see some progress, and it gives me so much hope.”

Your ongoing commitment ensures that we can continue to support these vital programs. Learn more about the impactful work being done by Israel Elwyn and how it is transforming lives on their new English Facebook Page.
