$1.7 Million Strengthening Safety Across Jewish Pittsburgh. That’s Federation.

Strengthening Security for Jewish Organizations

At this time of rising concern for community safety, critical investments in security are helping ensure Jewish life in Pittsburgh remains strong, resilient and protected.

Through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Nonprofit Security Grant Fund Program, administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, 30 Jewish organizations across the region have been awarded a combined $1,728,440 in security funding. These grants support vital upgrades at synagogues, schools and community organizations, helping them better prepare for and respond to potential threats.

Protecting Our Community

Security at these organizations remains one of the most important ways to safeguard Jewish life. These funds will strengthen infrastructure, enhance preparedness and provide peace of mind for the many individuals and families who gather in Jewish spaces each day.

“Security remains one of the most important ways we protect Jewish life and ensure our community can gather safely,” said Shawn Brokos, Director of Community Security. “These grants help strengthen the safety and preparedness of synagogues, schools and Jewish organizations throughout our region.”

The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh played a central role in coordinating this regional effort, working closely with local organizations throughout the application process and supporting institutions as they sought funding to enhance their security measures.

Expanding Impact Across Communities

In addition to supporting Jewish organizations, the Federation assisted several partner faith-based institutions with their applications. As a result, Attawheed Islamic Center in Carnegie, Church of the Redeemer and Assemble were collectively awarded $179,705 to strengthen security at their facilities.

The Federation itself also received $150,000 in funding, which will support additional security investments benefiting the broader Pittsburgh Jewish community.

We are grateful to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for its continued commitment to protecting vulnerable communities through this essential program. These investments not only enhance safety but also reinforce the sense of security that allows our community to gather, learn and celebrate together.

That’s safety.

That’s community.
That’s Federation.
