Supporting Israel Through Crisis and Recovery

That's partnership. That's commitment. That's solidarity.
That's Federation.

The October 7 terrorist attacks marked the beginning of a long journey for communities across Israel — not just a moment of crisis, but an ongoing effort to rebuild daily life, restore safety and find new rhythms of normalcy. For residents of Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak, that journey continues.

At the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, we believe that strengthening Jewish life means showing up — not just in the immediate aftermath of tragedy, but for the long road that follows. Our partnership with Nir Yitzhak is built on exactly that commitment: sustained, meaningful support that meets the community where it is, whenever it needs us most.

That foundation has made all the difference. A generous anonymous donor from our community provided essential equipment for the kibbutz's local emergency response unit — ensuring that when crisis comes, residents have the tools and the people ready to protect them. When Operation Roaring Lion began, that investment was already in place.

So was the art therapy center, inaugurated in December 2025 with representatives from Pittsburgh by their side. Designed as a calm, welcoming space for residents — including children and families carrying the weight of trauma — the center has become a cornerstone of community healing. Since the outbreak of the current conflict, it has opened its doors to the entire kibbutz, offering a vital creative outlet during some of the most stressful and uncertain times residents have faced since October 7.

Everyday life, too, is being tended to. A new tractor helps maintain the kibbutz's public gardens. An LED screen brings people together for cultural events and community gatherings — the kind of shared moments that are central to kibbutz life.

These aren't small gestures. They are the architecture of resilience, built piece by piece.

The partnership between Pittsburgh and Nir Yitzhak was forged in crisis — and it endures because the need endures. Through the generosity of our donors and the strength of this bond, we continue to stand with communities like Nir Yitzhak through every challenge and every step forward.
