Kibbutz Nir Yitzchak, located in the Gaza Envelope, is known for its thriving agriculture and fragrant floral scenery. On October 7, 2023, they were one of many communities attacked by Hamas terrorists. Following the attacks, all kibbutz members were evacuated, leaving their beloved community's gardens and public spaces unattended and eventually overgrown. Now, almost two years later, the community continues to work towards restoring the beauty of their home.
At the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, we believe that everyone should have access to the means necessary to improve and rebuild after tragedy. The communities of Pittsburgh and Kibbutz Nir Yitzchak are now connected through a special bond of solidarity and support. As part of our three-year commitment to support the kibbutz's rebuilding and recovery process, we identified essential needs that would make a meaningful difference. Through our Communities2Gether partnership initiative, the Pittsburgh community has donated a much-needed gardening tractor—a practical tool that serves a deeper purpose beyond just maintenance.
The dedicated gardening crew is now proudly using this equipment, which bears a special label: "Donated with love from the Pittsburgh community to Kibbutz Nir Yitzchak" alongside the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh logo. This contribution represents more than just gardening equipment—it's about restoring beauty to spaces that have suffered neglect during a traumatic period. By helping to beautify the kibbutz grounds, we're supporting efforts to improve the quality of life and create an environment that encourages displaced members to return and remain in their community. The resilience of Kibbutz Nir Yitzchak is inspiring, and the Pittsburgh community stands firmly alongside them as they rebuild not just their physical spaces but their sense of home and belonging.
