The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh is pleased to announce its 2024 Annual Meeting, to be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Jewish Community Center located at 5738 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217.

This year’s event will honor two distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions to the Jewish community.

David D. Sufrin will be presented with the 2024 Emanuel Spector Memorial Award, the highest honor presented by the Federation for exemplary service to the community.

Shawn A. Brokos will be presented with the 2024 Doris & Leonard H. Rudolph Jewish Communal Professional Award for her dedication and commitment to enhancing Jewish life.

David Sufrin is a dedicated leader and volunteer in the Jewish community, currently serving as Chair of the Governance Committee as well as Chair at the Jewish Federation’s Jewish Community Foundation and previously served as Chair of the Jewish Federation’s Board of Directors.

Shawn Brokos is the Director of Community Security for the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and oversees security enhancements, active threat training and law enforcement liaison efforts. She has facilitated millions of dollars in government security grants, installed emergency alert systems, initiated a community-based virtual block watch and trained over 37,000 community members in safety tactics.

“David and Shawn exemplify the very best of our community. Their dedication and tireless efforts have made an incredible impact,” said Jeff Finkelstein, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh.

In addition, the Federation will introduce Pittsburgh’s new Shinshinim, Israeli high school graduates who choose to defer their army service for one year in order to volunteer in English speaking communities as cultural ambassadors.
