Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh Approves Community Campaign Allocations, Boosts Security Investment

The Federation's 2026-2027 allocations expand community security and sustain Jewish life, human services and humanitarian partnerships around the world.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh Board of Directors has approved more than $7.4 million in Community Campaign allocations for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, increasing its investment in community security by $150,000 while providing unrestricted support to local organizations and trusted partners in Israel and around the world.

“This year’s allocations reflect the reality of the moment. Thanks to our donors’ generosity, we’re investing where it’s needed most, from expanding community security here in Pittsburgh to strengthening our partners around the world.”

Jeffrey Finkelstein, President & CEO, Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh

“These allocations are the product of a year of careful listening, observing and deliberate, thoughtful planning. Every recommendation reflects priorities our community helped shape, and every dollar is aimed where it can, G-d willing, do the most good.”

Judi Kanal, Chair of the Federation’s Planning and Impact Leadership Committee

Annual Community Allocations

Community Campaign allocations sustain core partners, deliver essential human services, strengthen Jewish education, enhance community security and support humanitarian programs in Israel and around the world, including:

  • A $150,000 increase in Community Security funding, bringing the Campaign’s annual investment to $350,000 as the Federation expands staffing and training to meet rising demand for threat assessment. This investment helps protect faith-based institutions and the communities they serve. Community Security staffing at the Federation has grown to 4 full-time staff members.
  • Nearly $1.1 million to fund Jewish day schools, early childhood education and teen learning programs.
  • Nearly $1.4 million to support older adults and vulnerable community members through Jewish Family and Community Services (JFCS), the Jewish Association on Aging (JAA), The Branch and other partner organizations.
  • More than $1.2 million to strengthen Jewish communal life, including the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh (JCC), on campus Jewish organizations and community-wide initiatives.
  • More than $2.6 million will support Israel and Jewish communities worldwide while strengthening Pittsburghers’ connection to Israel through travel and immersive experiences. Funding includes core support for the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), and programs throughout the Karmiel/Misgav partnership region that address the needs of at-risk youth, promote economic recovery, combat food insecurity and respond to other humanitarian challenges. Funding also provides scholarships that enable Pittsburgh teens to participate in transformative Israel travel experiences, including the Diller Teen Fellows program.

“Security isn’t a line item that stands apart from the rest of our mission. It’s what allows everything else to happen. When we invest in protecting our institutions, we’re investing in the safety of everyone who walks through their doors, ensuring our community can continue to gather, learn and thrive.”

Shawn Brokos, Director of Community Security, Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh
