We condemn the defacement of the Free Store in Braddock, Pennsylvania—an essential resource that provides food, clothing, diapers and formula at no cost to the community. This attack on a charitable institution dedicated to fighting poverty and offering vital support is inappropriate and counterproductive. Targeting individuals or businesses because they support Israel is antisemitism—plain and simple.
Accusing the Free Store and its founder, Gisele Fetterman, of having “blood on their hands” is a baseless and malicious act. It harms the vulnerable individuals who rely on its services and does nothing to support the Palestinian people in Gaza. Attacking a charitable organization that serves those in need crosses a line that should never be approached and only deepens division and pain.
The harassment directed at Senator Fetterman and his family—at their home and offices—since Oct. 7 is equally unacceptable.
