Thanks to the Voters and City Council for Supporting Ballot Measures That Strengthen Equity and Governance

Pittsburgh Voters Approve Ballot Questions to Act as a Safeguard Against BDS Initiatives

The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh applauds the voters of Pittsburgh for overwhelmingly supporting two important ballot measures in yesterday’s primary election. These amendments to the Pittsburgh Home Rule Charter—one prohibiting discrimination in city business, the other ensuring the responsible use of the charter amendment process—reflect our community’s shared values of fairness, inclusion and accountable government.

“We are deeply grateful to the people of Pittsburgh for standing up for equity, transparency and responsible leadership,” said Jeff Finkelstein, President and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh. “These ballot measures strengthen our city’s moral and civic foundation. They also serve as a safeguard against discriminatory and unlawful policy measures, like the BDS petition attempted earlier this year.”

“We especially thank the City Councilmembers who championed these efforts and helped bring these questions to the voters. Their leadership made this moment possible.”

~Jeff Finkelstein, President and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh

The Federation is proud to support initiatives that promote justice and protect the rights and dignity of all residents. We look forward to continuing to work with City leaders and our partners across the community to ensure Pittsburgh remains a place where every person is treated with respect.
