Both Laurie and Yisrael were living and working in Pittsburgh when their lives changed dramatically on October 7. Back for a brief visit, they now share share their personal experiences, observations and perspectives of the past 100+ days, reflecting on their brief time in Pittsburgh.
Yisrael Klitzner served as the Diaspora Affairs Advisor to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. He also spent six years at AIPAC-AIEF, where he directed strategic engagement. Raised in Jerusalem, he served in the elite anti-terror unit, Duvdevan, from 2006 to 2009. Currently pursuing an M.A. in public policy at Carnegie Mellon University and consulting with various organizations, he promptly left his academic and consulting roles in response to the recent Hamas attack on Israel to join his reserve unit in the Israel Defense Forces, deploying to Gaza. Yisrael brings personal and professional insights into Israel’s geopolitical landscape.
Laurie, Yisrael’s wife, who has a fellowship with university of Pittsburgh and UPMC, returned with the family six weeks later.
