The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and StandWithUs are pleased to announce that The Project for Responsive Democracy (PRD) has acknowledged that its Not On Our Dime referendum petition, filed on February 18, 2025, lacks enough valid signatures from registered Pittsburgh voters to qualify for the Primary Election ballot. Once again, they have failed to demonstrate support from Pittsburgh voters for their divisive and anti-Israel referendum. This is yet another decisive victory for our Jewish community, for local voters and for the City of Pittsburgh.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Beacon Coalition for leading the extensive signature review and validation effort. Hundreds of dedicated volunteers contributed their time to ensure that every signature was examined, ultimately proving that Not On Our Dime fell short.
Their failure to secure the necessary valid petition signatures sends a clear message: the citizens of Pittsburgh reject their reckless and dangerous agenda.
~Jeff Finkelstein, President & CEO, Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh
PRD’s proposed referendum posed a direct threat to our city’s values and financial stability, jeopardizing Pittsburgh’s ability to provide vital services. We are troubled that PRD for a second time pursued an effort that would damage the lives of Pittsburgh residents.
Looking ahead, the Federation and our organizational partners will continue working with our government officials to ensure that the referendum process is not misused to push harmful amendments to Pittsburgh’s Home Rule Charter. The referendum system is a vital element of democracy, but it must not be exploited for politically motivated attacks that would undermine the well-being of our city and its residents. We are committed to advocating for safeguards that protect the integrity of the process and prevent future attempts to use it as a tool for discrimination.
Today’s victory demonstrates the strength and resilience of our community. We will not be intimidated by those who seek to sow division and fear. The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening Jewish life, supporting those in need and building a safer, more inclusive world. StandWithUs will continue its mission to counter antisemitism, challenge misinformation and educate others about Israel through their international nonpartisan work. We are bolstered by the unwavering support of both Jewish and non-Jewish allies who have the same goals.
